What does a LVDT do?
Are you looking for a position sensor? A linear variable differential transformer, often abbreviated as LVDT, is a commonly used position sensor for measuring position or displacement. A LVDT internally consists of a series of coils. By adjusting the position of a magnetic core in the coil, the transfer between the coils changes. In this way, the position can be measured.
LVDT’s are ideal sensors, because they are very stable, accurate, do not break down easily and are easy to connect.
Application
LVDT’s are used as a position sensor in mechanical systems. The displacement to be measured is roughly between 0.2 and 20 cm. Examples of these are actuators for mirrors in optical systems, mechanical test arrangements or hydraulic cylinders. Basically, all systems where the position must be accurately determined.
